Vote like your city depends on it!
It matters who runs your local government. Too often in politics we get caught up in the noise and distraction of what’s going on in Washington DC, or on endlessly cycling cable news, or a nightly doomscroll through our social media feeds. But our daily life is actually affected by the people we elect to our city councils and school boards. The people who determine our property taxes, how much money gets allocated to local police and fire services, and whether that big new development gets the go ahead. And whether it will ever pay a cent in property taxes or be funded by some sweetheart deal. All of that – and more – is decided by the people we elect in those down-ballot and off-year elections.
In 2024 Lenexa City Council will meet 20+ times and impact the lives of the 60,000 people who call this city home. Their decisions will shape our lives, and our children’s lives. The development projects and building and zoning choices they make today will determine what this city is like in 10, 20 and 30 years time.
Lenexa is a wonderful, blessed place. We enjoy some of the highest standards of living in the entire world, and a quality of life that is fantastic. But it can only remain that way with wise decisions being made at City Hall. Achieving a sensible balance between competing needs and interests is so critical to maintaining the city we love, and ensuring that it is affordable and livable for all: for retirees and young families; for businesses that bring jobs and for the people that work them.
I’m running for City Council because I believe the right way to find that balance is through hard work and creativity, through innovative and out-of-the-box thinking – and from approaching every choice and problem with curiosity, to dig in and understand all perspectives before arriving at a decision. In today’s hyper-politicised and partisan age, we can’t afford to do anything less.
